Recovery, Follow-Up & Ongoing Care
What to expect after treatment, follow-up planning, recovery timelines, and when to seek further advice or urgent care.

Introduction
Recovery and follow-up are important parts of treatment, helping ensure that healing is progressing as expected and that any ongoing issues are addressed early. Your care plan will be tailored to the procedure you have had and your individual needs.
Follow-Up Appointments
Follow-up appointments are arranged to review recovery, discuss test results, and assess the effectiveness of treatment. Some follow-ups are planned soon after a procedure, while others are scheduled later to monitor progress. These visits provide an opportunity to ask questions and clarify next steps.
Stents, Removals, and Further Tests
If a stent has been placed, arrangements will be made for its removal or review, usually under local anaesthetic. You will be informed about expected symptoms and how long the stent should remain in place. In some cases, additional tests or scans may be required to confirm recovery or guide further care.
When to Seek Urgent Help
You will be advised on symptoms that require prompt attention, such as:
Fever or signs of infection
Increasing pain that is not controlled with medication
Difficulty passing urine or complete inability to urinate
Significant bleeding or worsening symptoms
If these occur, contact your care team or seek urgent medical advice as instructed.
Long-Term Care and Prevention
Some urological conditions benefit from ongoing monitoring or preventive strategies. This may include lifestyle advice, medication, or referral for specialist input to reduce the risk of recurrence. Where relevant, these plans will be discussed clearly during follow-up.
Footer Notes
Recovery timelines vary, and it is normal for progress to differ between individuals. If you are unsure about your recovery or have concerns between appointments, contacting the care team early is always advised.
